Golden gloves from BHU: three Kashi boxers strike gold at the regional sub-junior championship

Informational post · compiled by HelloBanaras

Kashi has three new boxing champions to cheer for. Trainees from the Sports Authority of India's training centre at Banaras Hindu University (SAI STC, BHU) returned home with gold from the sub-junior regional boxing championship held in Saharanpur. The winners — Akanksha in the under-37 kg category, Sandhya Yadav in under-46 kg and Khushi Tiwari in under-52 kg — topped their weight classes to stand on the podium. On their arrival back in Varanasi, the local boxing association welcomed the young athletes, and the centre's in-charge Subhanshu Dwivedi, along with coaches Pooja Yadav, Ramesh Sharma and Narendra Bisht, congratulated them on the wins. It's a proud moment for grassroots sport in the city. The SAI centre at BHU has quietly become a nursery for young talent, and results like these show what disciplined, well-coached training can do for girls from in and around Kashi. Sub-junior medals are exactly the early wins that build confidence and open doors to state and national ranks. Here's to Akanksha, Sandhya and Khushi — and to the coaches behind them. If your child dreams of the ring, stories like this are a reminder that a serious training path exists right here in Varanasi.
