Ten more flights a day: Varanasi airport rebuilds its links to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Vijayawada

Flying in and out of Kashi got easier from 1 August. Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport added ten flights to its daily schedule, widening connections to four cities at once — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Vijayawada. Air India Express put on two additional services to Mumbai and one new service to Delhi, the two routes Banarasis use most for work and family travel. Akasa Air began a daily Varanasi–Bengaluru flight, a link the city's students and IT workers in the south have wanted for a while. IndiGo's Varanasi–Vijayawada service also joins the board, opening a fresh southern connection for pilgrims travelling in both directions. The timing matters. Daily movements at the airport had slipped to around 44 earlier this year, down from roughly 84 at their peak, as airlines trimmed schedules against rising fuel costs. The August additions begin to rebuild that base — and they arrive in the middle of Sawan, when the city is already handling a heavy stream of pilgrims. Airport officials said the expansion is meant to give passengers better options and to support tourism, and that they hope to add more destinations as demand firms up. For anyone planning a trip out of Banaras this month, it is worth re-checking fares and timings: there are simply more seats on the board than there were a week ago.
