Dress Modestly at Temples — Cover Shoulders and Knees

Varanasi temples expect modest attire. Cover your shoulders and knees — sleeveless tops, shorts, and mini-skirts will get you turned away at major temples like Kashi Vishwanath. Carry a light cotton stole or dupatta in your bag. Leather items (belts, bags) are also prohibited inside most temples. Many temples have free locker rooms at the entrance for bags and phones.
