Forget chain-cafe smoothies. Banarasi thandai is a centuries-old spiced milk drink with almonds, fennel, rose petals, and black pepper, served ice-cold. The best stalls are around Godowlia and near BHU Gate. Available year-round but peaks in summer and during Holi. Ask for the bhang-free version unless you want the traditional Holi special.
