Banaras Hindu University — Modern Educational Citadel
Founded in 1916 CE by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, BHU transcends the boundaries of a mere educational institution to become a living testament to India's intellectual renaissance. Malaviya envisioned an institution combining the best of Western education with Indian cultural values and spiritual traditions. Formally inaugurated on February 1, 1916, with Mahatma Gandhi and Annie Besant among attendees, the buildings were designed in Indo-Saracenic style by architect Sir Swinton Jacob, inspired by ancient Indian universities like Nalanda and Takshashila.
