Karwa Chauth is a one-day festival in which married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the longevity and prosperity of their husbands. Widely celebrated in North India — Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and UP.
Fast from sunrise. Dress in bridal finery — red/pink clothes, mehndi, jewelry. Perform Karwa Chauth puja in the evening. Sight the moon through a sieve, see husband's face, break the fast.
Nirjala fast from sunrise to moonrise. Sargi (pre-dawn meal prepared by mother-in-law) is eaten before sunrise.
