
Ram Navami celebrates the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu. He was born on Chaitra Shukla Navami during Madhyahna (midday). The festival marks the triumph of righteousness (dharma) over evil.
Fast from sunrise to sunset. Perform Rama Puja during Madhyahna (midday), recite Ramayana, sing bhajans, visit Rama temples. Place baby Rama idol in a cradle.
Full day fast broken after sunset. Fruits and milk are allowed for those who cannot observe full fast.
Varanasi hosts grand Ram Navami celebrations. Sankat Mochan Temple and Tulsi Manas Temple organize special events. Processions (shobha yatra) pass through the old city with decorated chariots. Ramnagar Fort also holds celebrations.
